eye exam

The optometrist will take time to listen to your reason for visit, concerns, and questions. She will use this information to provide a comprehensive eye examination using state of the art equipment. A routine eye examination may consist of:
  • A test called a Refraction - when the doctor determines your prescription for glasses
  • A thorough evaluation of your external and internal eye health
  • A retinal screening photo to assist with analysis and diagnosis
The doctor will also provide specialized medical care when indicated. This can include:
  • Diabetic eye examinations
  • Emergency visits
  • Prescription for eye drops
  • Dry eye evaluations and treatment
  • Removal of foreign bodies from the eye
  • Evaluation for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and more

What is a retinal screening and how does it help?
  • With a retinal screening, the doctor can get a much wider view of the eyes without having to dilate your pupils.
  • The doctor can show you the images immediately for review.  These images are placed in your patient records that will allow for year over year comparison and review.
  • Conditions such as Diabetes, Glaucoma, and Macular Degeneration can help be diagnosed and monitored.
  • The sample retinal photo below shows a number of conditions that can be viewed and diagnosed from the screening.

myopia
What is Myopia control and why is it important?
  • The use of specific treatments has a proven effect to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children.
  • There are three primary categories of myopia control treatments: multifocal soft contact lenses, orthokeratology (ortho-k) overnight contact lenses, and prescription eye drops.
  • Myopia control is important because it may help reduce the risk of vision-threatening complications associated with high myopia later in life.  These risks can include glaucoma, retinal detachment, cataracts and even blindness in extreme cases.
