What is a retinal screening and how does it help?
- With a retinal screening, the doctor can get a much wider view of the eyes without having to dilate your pupils.
- The doctor can show you the images immediately for review. These images are placed in your patient records that will allow for year over year comparison and review.
- Conditions such as Diabetes, Glaucoma, and Macular Degeneration can help be diagnosed and monitored.
- The sample retinal photo below shows a number of conditions that can be viewed and diagnosed from the screening.
What is Myopia control and why is it important?
- The use of specific treatments has a proven effect to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children.
- There are four primary categories of myopia control treatments: Stellest eyeglass lenses from Essilor, MiSight soft multifocal contact lenses from Coopervision, orthokeratology (ortho-k) overnight contact lenses, and prescription eye drops.
- Myopia control is important because it may help reduce the risk of vision-threatening complications associated with high myopia later in life. These risks can include glaucoma, retinal detachment, cataracts and even blindness in extreme cases.
